I use firefox and today happened strange thing
When i open any other pages, everything is ok, but when i open guildwarsguru page cpu usage goes up 33%, i open 1 more thread in new window, usage goes up ~60%, 3rd thread in new page - cpu usage ~100%

Any ideas whats wrong and how to fix it?

Or... use IE and get Norton Internet Security. The first time I realized there actually were supposed to be ads was when someone posted a rather disturbing one in Site Feedback. I never see any ads on here, ever.

ANYWAY, what version of Firefox and Flash do you have because I don't get that issue in 1.5.0.1 and Flash 8. The max usage is 50% for those ads on the front page with a mobile Sempron 2800+ and 3 tabs open.

Did you scan for Spyware, adware?

Ads are how we keep the site up. It's how we only, ONLY have 1 reasonable banner at the top of the page and not skyscrapers, pop-ups, or any of the other type of ads (and multiple ads on top of that) that you see everywhere else. It's how we manage to not ask for donations or bombard you with advertising. We don't ask much, so it's disheartening to see people block the ads on a site that they like and visit daily but won't even do a small thing like view a single banner.

Some FLash ads (not all, but there are some doozies out there) are poorly coded and can suck the life out of a CPU (this pertains to the Opera and Firefox plugin- IE uses a different plugin which is much more efficient for some reason). The best thing to do when you get such an ad is just report it to Inde or a moderator so they can look into it. It can be as simple as them telling the advertiser about the problem, and perhaps they'll optimize the ad.

Well, since IE is integrated into Windows its going to take less resources. But as for Mozilla products, MacrAdobe has not updated the plugin much for the latest Gecko based browsers like Firefox and Seamonkey.

The last signifigant update to the Mozilla flash plugin was done some time last year when Flash 8 was released. Which is why its a bit faster than 7. But it still suffers from eating up cpu cycles when using scripted animation. Hell, Linux is still stuck with version 7 and the linux version has many problems that have been there for a good while.

Things might change with Vista and Firefox 3 with the introduction of Cairo. It will allow Firefox on all OSes to take advantage of your graphics card power to render SVG and a number of interface enhancements like themes. This will most likely force the Flash plugin team to take advantage of the power as well.

If you are wondering, Firefox 2 is a more of a maintainence release for the trunk that will optmize most of the code, introduce more features and enhance others so that it will be ready to become FF3. But FF3 won't be ready until 2007(yes FF2 and 3 are being worked on side by side).

I've gotten word that MacrAdobe is working on Flash 8.5 which is supposed to "significantly" improve performance across all of the plugin platforms. They also seemed to fixed a number of memory leaks as well.

Edit 2:

I have also learned that Firefox has a slew of fix releases coming soon in the form of 1.5.0.2, 1.5.0.3 respectively and 1.0.8 for those too scared or cant upgrade to 1.5 just yet. Along with the first alpha of Firefox 2.0 coming some time this month.

Mozilla is most definitely on the ball.

Ok, so i have the answer to my question (same as op) though i have not blocked the ads... However these ads appear alot more places than guru...

(ps- i am not touching ie...)
